What is the difference between a central and wall-mounted heat pump?

Have you decided to install a heat pump in your home?

This is a great decision because it could improve your energy efficiency and save you money on electricity. So, you have the choice between two main types of heat pumps: wall-mounted or central. In this article, we'll explore the differences between the two systems to help you make a more informed choice.

How a Wall-Mounted Heat Pump Operates:

A wall-mounted heat pump consists of two units, one installed inside and the other outside. This dual-component system efficiently regulates your indoor climate. In the winter, it warms your home by heating outdoor air and circulating it inside. During the summer, it cools the outdoor air and circulates it inside insuring your living area is fresh. This system efficiently maintains your indoor comfort throughout the year.

How the central heat pump works:

The central heat pump is outside the house and is then connected to a ventilation system. The principle of heating and cooling is the same for wall-mounted heat pumps and central heat pumps, but central heat pumps work better thanks to ventilation ducts. They can also be connected to ovens to provide heat, which is quite common in countries with colder climates.

Wall-mounted or central heat pump, which is the right choice?

These two systems have the same functions, namely to air condition and heat the house without drying out the air. However, you should know that regardless of the type of heat pump, you will still need to provide a second heating mode when the temperature reaches -15 degrees Celsius. For its part, the central heat pump offers more comfort, because it distributes heat evenly throughout the house. The wall-mounted heat pump, attached to the wall, provides more localized heat and is less efficient in heating all the rooms in the house. Also, if your home has many rooms, it is preferable to opt for the central system which will ensure that each room will be adequately heated.
